Caregivers for seniors in Winnipeg

Friendly Caregiver Seniors Care provides private caregivers for seniors in Winnipeg, in the senior’s own home, for visits of three hours up to 24 hours, seven days a week. We are a family-run Winnipeg agency, in business since 2009. The owner, Loreta Stukaite, chooses the caregiver for each family herself, and you see the same caregiver at every visit.

What our caregivers do

A caregiver from Friendly Caregiver helps a senior stay comfortable and safe at home. Depending on what the family asks for, that means:

• Personal care: support with the private, everyday routines that keep a senior comfortable at home
• Companion care: conversation at home, shopping and errands, medical appointments, and day outings
• Light housekeeping and meal preparation, as part of a care visit
• Respite visits so a family caregiver can take an afternoon, a day, or longer
• Overnight care

What our caregivers do not do

Our care is non-medical. Friendly Caregiver does not employ licensed nurses, so our caregivers do not give injections, administer medication, change dressings, or provide nursing or palliative care. Our visits can run alongside WRHA home care hours or instead of them: we cover the daily help and the company, not the medical side.

How we match a caregiver to your family

Loreta does the matching herself.

2. A free consultation to understand what help is needed, on which days, and for how long.
3. Loreta picks one caregiver from her team for your family. She chooses for the fit, not just the schedule, and she chooses people who plan to stay with the company and its clients for the long term, so the person you meet is the person who keeps coming.

What to expect at the first visit

Loreta comes to the first visit with your caregiver. You meet the person who will be coming to the house, ask anything you like, and raise any concern on the spot, with the owner standing in the room. After that, the same caregiver returns for every scheduled visit.

If your caregiver is away, Loreta tells you who is coming instead and when.

How to ask for a different caregiver

Call Loreta at 204-798-0490 and tell her. Because she chose the caregiver, she is the person who changes it. A good match matters more to us than keeping a schedule tidy.

How we hire and screen our caregivers in Winnipeg

Loreta selects every member of the Friendly Caregiver Seniors Care team herself. She looks for people with empathy and a personal touch, and for people who will stay with the company and its clients for an extended period, because a caregiver who leaves after two months is a caregiver a family has to get used to all over again.

Every caregiver completes three checks before starting with a family:

• a criminal record check
• an adult abuse registry check
• a child abuse registry check

Will the same caregiver come every time?

Yes. Loreta picks one caregiver for your family and that person comes to every scheduled visit. She comes to the first visit herself, so you meet your caregiver with the owner in the room, and if your caregiver is ever away she tells you who is coming instead and when.

Are your caregivers checked before they start?

Yes. Every caregiver completes a criminal record check, an adult abuse registry check and a child abuse registry check before a first visit with any family. Manitoba does not license private home care agencies, so these checks and Loreta’s own selection of each caregiver are how we vet our team.

Can I have a private caregiver as well as WRHA home care?
