How much does private home care cost in Winnipeg?

Call 204-798-0490 Free consultation

Private home care in Winnipeg is billed by the hour at Friendly Caregiver Seniors Care, with a 3-hour minimum per visit, and the hourly rate depends on the care plan: what kind of help is needed. We do not publish a price list; you get a quote at the free consultation, with no obligation. Call 204-798-0490, answered 24 hours a day, or contact us. The rest of this page explains how the pricing works.

How private home care is priced

Friendly Caregiver charges by the hour: the hourly rate multiplied by the hours a caregiver is in the home. Three things set that number:

  1. The rate. You get a quote at the free consultation.
  2. The visit length. Our minimum is 3 hours per visit, the smallest block we book.
  3. How often. Three mornings a week is a different month than every day, which is different again from overnight or 24-hour care.

The 3-hour minimum

Every visit is at least 3 hours, seven days a week. Three hours is enough for help with washing and dressing, a cooked meal, a tidy kitchen and some unhurried company; a visit is not a checklist.

What changes the rate

At the consultation Loreta Stukaite, the owner, asks about a normal day and builds the plan from that. What moves the quote:

We work seven days a week, do not close for holidays, and visit the senior’s own home, 55+ buildings, assisted living and retirement residences anywhere in Winnipeg. Whether evenings, weekends, statutory holidays or the building itself change the rate is a question for the consultation; the quote covers the schedule your family actually needs.

What the hourly rate includes

The caregiver’s time, start to finish, and everything in it: personal care, meals and the dishes, light housekeeping, company, and a report back to the family. Also included at no extra charge: the free consultation, and the owner matching the caregiver to your family and attending the first visit.

Not included: anything medical. Friendly Caregiver does not employ licensed nurses, so our caregivers do not administer medication, give injections, change dressings, or provide nursing or palliative care. Ask at the consultation how invoices are paid and whether notice is needed to change or cancel a visit.

How Self and Family Managed Care offsets the cost

Self and Family Managed Care (SFMC) is an option within the WRHA Home Care Program. After an assessment, a case coordinator sets the type and amount of care a person qualifies for, and instead of scheduled visits from the public program, the family receives funding to purchase services or to employ staff. The WRHA states that you may hire an agency to provide the funded hours, and we serve families who do.

In plain terms: the hours the assessment covers are paid from the SFMC funding; your family pays privately for any hours above that. We provide clear invoices for your SFMC record-keeping, because the program requires a separate bank account and records of how the funding was spent.

SFMC starts with the WRHA Home Care intake line at 204-788-8330, not with us. More on our Self and Family Managed Care page.

Other ways families offset the cost

Home care or a care home

In Manitoba, the residential charge for a personal care home bed is a daily charge based on the resident’s income, set each year by the province. Private home care has no income test, and the person stays in their own home. Which costs your family more depends on the hours, which is what the consultation works out. See private home care in Winnipeg for the home-or-care-home question itself.

How to get a real number

  1. Call 204-798-0490, any hour, or send the contact form.
  2. A free consultation with Loreta: a normal day, which hours need covering, and whether any WRHA or SFMC hours are already in place.
  3. You get a quote for the plan, with no obligation.
  4. If you go ahead, care usually starts within days, with the same caregiver each visit where possible.

Frequently asked questions

How much does private home care cost per hour in Winnipeg?

It depends on the care plan; at Friendly Caregiver the rate is quoted at the free consultation and every visit is a 3-hour minimum. If your family has Self and Family Managed Care funding from the WRHA, the funded hours are paid from it.

Is there a minimum number of hours for home care in Winnipeg?

With us, yes: 3 hours per visit, seven days a week, anywhere in Winnipeg.

Does Self and Family Managed Care pay for a private agency?

Yes. The WRHA’s SFMC program gives assessed families funding to purchase services or employ staff, and the WRHA says you may hire an agency for the funded hours. Apply through the Home Care intake line, 204-788-8330.

Is home care in Manitoba free?

In-home services from the WRHA Home Care Program are provided without charge to eligible Manitoba residents, with hours set after an assessment; private home care is paid by the family, by SFMC funding, or a mix. Manitoba Health does not license private agencies, and each one sets its own rate.
